This month will see the launch of Rock The Belles, a new night dedicated to everything that is great in female music. The night will bring together an eclectic mix of DJs, bands, designers and creatives to celebrate those who are lighting up the music and creative industres and to help nurture up-and-coming talent.
“There are so many talented females around who are not getting the exposure they deserve,” says organiser Emily Rawson. “The DJ world in particular is still really male dominated, so we have an incredible all female DJ line up and talented female-fronted live acts, photographers, artists and more who are all doing their thing as creative smart strong women.”
Some of the acts involved with the launch night include Little Boots, Yasmin, DJ Kayper, The Pins and Hepz Tagoe. London trend-setters Wah Nails will also be there to bling-out everyone’s nails with their wild designs.
Rock The Belles is a rare opportunity for up-and-coming female creatives to collaborate and help each other in their respective industries. “Being around like minded people and being able to talk to each other and support each other is great,” says quirky pop songstress Marla. “I’m really excited about seeing Yasmin play. I found her mix tape on Hypemachine and downloaded it and for months it was the only thing I listened to.”
DJ Kayper, who has a show on Radio 1’s Asian Network, agrees: “All of the dj’s and performers on the line up are doing great things in their careers right now and an event like Rock The Belles is a brilliant way to showcase everyone’s individual skills and show unity.”
